Founder Q/A - How Is BEB Diaper Balm Different From Others on the Market?
Interview by Jan Davidson, head of BEB Organic customer service. She hears all the questions and interviews Kim to get you answers!
Hi, I’m Kim, founder of BEB Organic—and a mom, formulator, and lifelong advocate for safe, effective skincare for babies. When I created our Diaper Balm, I wasn’t looking to make just another cream for rashes. I was setting out to make something that could meet the same high standards I had as a parent and as a product developer—especially for medically fragile babies like preemies.
So how does BEB Diaper Balm really stack up against everything else out there? Let me walk you through it.
Q: What makes BEB Organic Diaper Balm different from everything else on the shelf?
A: From day one, I formulated this balm with the most delicate babies in mind—specifically preemies. That meant no compromises.
We developed it alongside pediatricians and NICU nurses, because we needed something that worked not just for typical diaper rash, but also for the fragile, easily damaged skin of premature infants. The result is a balm that’s both incredibly effective and unusually gentle. I often say it’s a high-performance formula wrapped in a hug.
Instead of using common fillers, petroleum, or synthetic ingredients, we relied on a powerhouse combination of zinc oxide, plant-based butters, and a proprietary botanical blend that you won’t find anywhere else. Every part of this formula was chosen for a reason—and each one does something good for your baby’s skin.
Q: Can we talk about the smell? Yours doesn’t smell like diaper cream.
A: Thank you for noticing! That was very intentional.
So many diaper balms have this strong, unpleasant smell—and when you combine that with a dirty diaper? No thank you.
Our balm smells subtly sweet and clean, but never overpowering. It comes from the natural ingredients we use—not from synthetic fragrance or essential oils. Babies are sensitive to scent, and preemies even more so. I wanted something that smelled comforting, not chemical.
Q: What about the zinc content? I heard BEB has a higher concentration than most.
A: It does—and that’s a big deal.
We use 20% non-nano zinc oxide, which is more than you’ll find in most diaper creams (many sit around 10–15%). Zinc oxide is the ingredient that forms a breathable barrier to protect irritated skin and support healing underneath.
Yes, it’s more expensive to formulate with at that level. But if it makes a visible difference—and it does—it’s worth it. That’s part of our core philosophy: If it’s better for the baby, we find a way to do it.
Q: What’s Phytocura™, and why is it in the balm?
A: Phytocura™ refers to our signature plant-powered concentrates, and I’m incredibly proud of them.
It’s a blend of healing botanicals like calendula, myrrh, yarrow, and rosehip—each chosen for their soothing, anti-inflammatory, and skin-repairing properties. The blends are safe enough for preemie skin and effective enough to make a visible difference in redness, irritation, and discomfort.
This isn't a sprinkle of fancy herbs just for the label—we include our concentrates at real, therapeutic levels. It’s one of the reasons so many NICU nurses and dermatologists trust our balm.
Q: Is it really safe for preemies?
A: Yes. That was non-negotiable for me.
Every BEB product is designed with preemies in mind. We don’t just say "gentle"—we prove it. That means:
-
Every formula is pH-balanced and skin-neutral
-
Free from essential oils and synthetic fragrance
-
Allergy-tested by third parties
-
Non-GMO, non-toxic, and 100% clean
-
Developed alongside NICU nurses and pediatric specialists
When your baby’s skin barrier is still developing—and especially if they’re in or just out of the NICU—every ingredient matters. This balm is safe from day one.
Q: How should parents use it—just for rashes, or every day?
A: Great question. Prevention is always better than treatment.
I recommend using a light layer at every diaper change to create a soft protective barrier that helps prevent irritation from moisture, friction, and bacteria. If a rash has already developed, you’ll want to apply a thicker layer at each change to really allow the skin to heal underneath.
A little goes a long way—it’s velvety smooth, spreads easily, and forms a nourishing layer without feeling heavy or sticky.
Q: What if I want to use it on more than just the diaper area?
A: Go for it!
While the balm was designed for the diaper zone, it’s so gentle and effective that many parents (myself included!) use it for:
-
Neck and thigh folds
-
Dry or irritated cheeks
-
Behind the knees
-
Cold-weather windburn
-
Even their own hands!
It’s basically a multipurpose barrier balm for anyone in the family with skin that needs soothing or protecting.
Q: Why is this the one so many hospitals and birth centers recommend?
A: Because it works, and it’s safe.
We’re proud that BEB Organic Diaper Balm is used and recommended by hospitals across the country, especially in NICUs. That level of trust comes from our obsession with ingredient integrity, clinical testing, and continuous improvement.
Unlike most baby brands, we start our development process by asking: Would this be safe for a preemie? That question shapes everything—from ingredient selection to sourcing to how we test and validate each formula.
Final Thoughts from Kim
The truth is, diaper balm isn’t just about treating rashes. It’s about protecting some of the most vulnerable skin on your baby’s body. That’s why we put so much care and science into something so small.
If you haven’t tried it yet, I hope you will. And if you have—thank you. Your trust means everything to us.
